Balancing the present with the future
Becoming a mother provided me with a sense of clarity that I didn't have before my daughter was born.
Before Grace was born, I lived almost entirely in the future (making plans). But, with a new child, I found that I had to often live so completely in the present that even a few minutes was far away. When you are feeding a tiny infant at 3 AM isn't it hard to think about the next day let alone where you want to be next month?
Of course, living in the present is a great and desirable pleasure, but I believe that it must be balanced with an eye to the future especially as I continue to grow my career.
To me, balancing the present with the future means proactively enjoying the moment without losing sight of my goals. I try to always remember where I want to be in 10 years, in 5 years, in a month and tomorrow. I try to see my future, see the path and then follow it while smelling all the roses as I go.
